The Wake up Call

A family is shattered overnight by the loss of their father. In “The Wake-up Call.” Their fictional journey moves from heartbreak through nightmares toward acceptance and resilience in the hope of a better futureThough not autobiographical, this story was inspired by a real event in my life. Years ago, we were a family with ten kids. At that time, some of us were living on our own, while others were still at home. Then, after 35 years of marriage to my mom, my father decided to walk out of all our lives for a woman who left him only months later. After he left, he provided no support to my mother or the kids.One night, as I was reflecting on what my father had done, I decided to start writing down my thoughts. Soon after, a story began to develop and took on a life of its own. The characters—loosely based on family and friends—emerged unexpectedly, guiding my writing. By the time I finished the book, my mind felt clear. It was as if the experience, like a bad dream, had shown me it was time to close that door and move on. Read more
